Big Ideas,
Real Impact.

The Soultree Collective drives our festival's mission. We expand opportunities for participants and mentors, setting a standard for informal youth live-music training and creative expression. Since 2007, STC has promoted R&B through auditioned bands, supporting 14 groups aged 12–21. Officially for ages 16–21, we remain flexible to give every aspiring musician a chance.

Programs and Community Impact

SOULTREE COLLECTIVE

The STC is at the heart of our festival's mission. We're continuously expanding our services for participants and mentors, establishing a benchmark for informal youth live music training and creative expression.

Since 2007, STC has championed R&B genres through auditioned bands, fostering 14 groups ranging from ages 12 to 21. While our official age requirement is 16 to 21, we've embraced flexibility to ensure every aspiring musician has an opportunity to flourish.

At STC, we believe in laying a strong foundation. Participants learn fundamental band skills, starting with setting up instruments on stage and connecting to sound equipment as outlined in their Stage Plot drawings. This knowledge of music production is invaluable and will serve them well as they progress in their musical careers. Join us as we celebrate the power of music to unite, inspire, and transform lives. The Urban Music and Cultural Festival is more than an event; it's a movement that nurtures talent, fosters creativity, and amplifies the voices of the next generation.

Through STC, we plan to assist young artists with their artistic and creative goals like developing a signature style or learning a new medium, professional goals like understanding contracts, and personal goals such as improving confidence or managing time better. Examples of specific, measurable goals include the following:

• completing a certain number of practices per month (2),
• attending a certain number of growth and development sessions per month (2),
• building a 5-year plan, and
• consistently posting to social media three times a week to grow an online presence.

UMCF works with STC and its participants to:

• Improve foundational skills: Focus on mastering key musical areas like composition, through practice.
• Develop a signature style: Work on creating a unique artistic voice/instrumental and style.
